Eric in Post Office ‘One Month Left’ Warning

Eric discusses Post Office closures Eric Ollerenshaw has warned residents that there is only one month left to campaign for the future of local Post Offices in the Lancaster and Fleetwood area.

Back in October, the ex-History teacher called for a ‘winter campaign’ from the local community in order to support local Post Offices. The campaign was a response to news that in January 2008, Post Offices selected for closure would be publicly released.

Labour’s latest attack on our local services began in May 2006, when the then Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Alistair Darling, announced that around 2,500 Post Offices would close by 2009.

Local Post Offices considered for the chop will be released under the ‘Lancashire, Fylde and Southport” list on January 22nd. A public consultation officially starts on the same day.

Eric said: “I know everyone will be getting really excited about Christmas – I certainly am – but we must still not forget that there is only one month left before the list of Post Offices proposed for chop, by the Government, is published.

As I said back in October, everyone in the community now needs to rally round for the sake of these superb facilities and say a firm ‘no’ to the Government in their attempts to close them down.

Therefore, I would urge anyone concerned about their local Post Office to contact John Hutton MP, the Secretary of State for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.”
