EU Treaty Referendum Demand Taken to Westminster

Eric Ollerenshaw, Lancaster and Fleetwood’s Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, has taken his demand for a referendum on the controversial ‘European Union Treaty’, or ‘the Lisbon Treaty’ as it is known in some quarters, straight to the heart of UK decision-making.
Eric was joined in Westminster by between two and three thousand people from across the country, all gathered to protest over the refusal, by the Government, to permit a public vote on the document.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown signed the Treaty in Lisbon back in December. The piece will create an EU President, a more powerful foreign policy chief as well as binning the national veto in some policy areas.
In October, the European Scrutiny Committee based at the House of Commons, raised doubts about the safety of key parts of British sovereignty if the new European Union Treaty was to be adopted by the UK.
Eric said: “Gordon Brown is insulting the public by not offering us a vote on this very fishy new Treaty which has some very dangerous consequences for our governance.
“It is virtually a carbon-copy of the now defunct European Constitution on which we were promised a say.
“I was very proud to be at the rally at Westminster to make sure our community’s voice is being heard in the campaign for a referendum on the Treaty.”

Another bandwagon Eric? You, and all the electors know that the Conservatives have refused to commit to a referendum on the Lisbon treaty.
Please stop trying to pull the wool over our eyes. Tories may think we are stupid but we have long memories.
Oh quick, here comes another wagon, JUMP ABOARD

I think the Lancaster and Fleetwood Labour Party should be less concerned about what is happening on this website, and do some work on their own out-of-date offering which just consists of one page claiming that they are about to select their Parliamentary Spokesman.
But then again that is Labour all over, isn’t it? Nothing to offer themselves, just keen on attacking others.

Sorry you are so upset about the fact that the Conservative Party is sticking to its election promise, that this Treaty is the Constitution in another name and therefore the British people deserve a vote on this further erosion of power to Brussels.
If my memory serves me right that’s just what your Party and Gordon Brown promised in the last General Election – and that doesn’t need a long memory!

The sad thing about Labour’s position isn’t that they signed it. The bad part is maintaining the red lines on social policy. If we are going to lose some sovereignty it should be in the areas where Europe does things better than us.

Sorry, I think you have missed the point – Labour, the Liberals and ourselves promised a referendum at the last election.
Only the Conservatives have pushed to get the Government to stand by its promise. In that way we could have maintained our sovereignty and then had the right, through our normal democratic process, to decide on social policy, foreign policy, immigration policy etc.
Sovereignty has been surrendered with no say by the people of this country and by a Labour and Liberal stitch up.
