Eric Ollerenshaw was elected as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Lancaster and Fleetwood on 6th May 2010.

Born and bred in Lancashire, Eric lives locally in Lancaster. A former history teacher, he taught in several Comprehensive schools and improving our education system continues to be a passion and political priority. An experienced and tough campaigner, Eric was a board member of Great Ormond St. Hospital, a successful local councillor, a member of the London Assembly and of a police authority. He will be using this mix of professional and political experience to fight hard for our local area and to scrutinise legislation going through Parliament.

At Westminster, Eric takes a keen interest in various issues, including education, energy, local government, health and agriculture and fisheries. He is a member of many ‘All Party Parliamentary Groups’ including the Rail in the North Group, the Maritime and Ports Group, the Limb Loss Group and the Hill Farming Group. Eric has also been appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, the Minister of State for Faith and Communities as well as Senior Minister for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.

Locally, Eric has takes an active role in campaigning on several important issues. He led the Conservative petition against the closure of local Post Offices and has been involved in many other campaigns, including fighting the plans of Halite, and Cantaxx before them, to store gas under the river Wyre and lobbying for better bin and recycling services for Lancaster residents. He has supported local residents in their battle against overbearing planning applications and is working to help ensure proper sea defences are in place along our coastline. Eric said: “It is a great privilege to have been chosen as the Member of Parliament for the Lancaster and Fleetwood. This newly created constituency is one of the most diverse in the country, with a geographical area stretching from the Yorkshire Border, down to Morecambe Bay and the Irish Sea. The constituency includes the fishing town of Fleetwood, the Over Wyre villages of Knott End, Preesall and Pilling, the rural communities south of Lancaster and the Lower Lune Valley including Galgate, Glasson Dock, Caton, Brookhouse and Wray, as well as two universities and the historic city of Lancaster itself.
