George Osborne Visits Fleetwood
George Osborne at the Fleetwood Fish Processors
The Shadow Chancellor, George Osborne M.P., visited Fleetwood recently and stopped off at the fish processors.
Mr Osborne, who was in Fleetwood with Eric Ollerenshaw, saw the plans for a new fish park and heard first hand the problems of this vital industry and the potential for expansion.
Calls for EU Ban on Fish Discards
Struan Stevenson, the Conservative spokesman for fisheries in the European Parliament, has commented on today’s EU fishing quota meeting.
Ministers are meeting in Brussels to discuss the quotas for next year, following proposals by European Commission to cut the quota on cod, herring, haddock and whiting by 25%. A 7% increase in North Sea sole will also be discussed.
The Government Turns its Back on British Fruit and Veg

The Conservatives have recently released new analysis, which shows that the Government has turned its back on British fruit and vegetables.
Over the past decade, the fruit and vegetable trade deficit has grown by 55% to £3.5bn while nearly a million acres of planted land for fruit and vegetables has been lost.

Eric Ollerenshaw, while welcoming the partial relaxation of travel restrictions, is calling on the Government to pay the single payments early in order to assist hard pressed farmers.
