Keep Our Post Offices Open

Four Post Offices in Lancaster and one in Fleetwood look set to close following Government cuts. Lancaster and Fleetwood Parliamentary Candidate, Eric Ollerenshaw, is leading the fight to save these local resources from Labour’s axe.

Local residents have just six weeks to save their Post Office as the office consultation will finish at the end of February.

The Government’s Post Office cuts have now arrived in Lancashire as part of the Royal Mail Group’s Lancashire, Flyde and Southport closure list.

In Lancaster, two Post Offices face complete closure; Higher Greaves (Bargain Booze) and Ridge Square.

A further two village Post Offices will shut and be replaced by a Mobile Post Service for a few hours each week.

Glasson Dock will close to be replaced with an ‘outreach’ service that will call for 8 hours each week. Quernmore will also be replaced by a similar service, open for 4 hours each week.

Fleetwood residents will see the Lighthouse Post Office facing the axe.

Lancaster and Fleetwood Conservatives have begun the campaign to save our Post Offices and ask you to get involved by signing our petition below. We will deliver the petition to Prime Minister Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street.

This Government holds the record for closing Post Offices faster than any other.

quernridge_po.png4,000 Post Offices have already closed under Labour, and a further 2,500 branches will close by 2009.

This latest round of cuts has confirmed many peoples’ worst fears - our Post Office network is about to be decimated.

By the time of the next election, Labour will have closed over one third of the entire Post Office network.

Conservatives have called for Sub-Post Offices to be given greater freedoms to offer a wider range of commercial products and are pushing for more Post Offices to be ‘one stop shops’ for local and central government services.

Making the Post Office Card Account a more flexible financial tool with much greater functionality would also help to keep our Post Office network open.
